I've been branching out from Don Miguel's teachings into various other books, and realizing that there really is an overarching philosophy of how to live a good, honest, loving life. It's amazing how it all seems to tie together, huh? Have you noticed the common threads in books you've read, seminars you've taken, teachings you've heard?
How would you distill the wisdom you've learned, down into a paragraph or so? What would you most like to share with others, in hopes that they would understand?
So far, here's what I've found to be true, effective, real, useful, timely.... etc. These ideas definitely have some cross-pollination with The Four Agreements....
-We can choose our own reality. The tiny space between "event" and "reaction" is entirely ours, and we can choose that response. We can choose to be happy, to respond well to things, to look on the bright side, to suspend judgment, to be kind, to act out of love and compassion.
-Just being present is probably the most important gift you can give yourself. Not worrying about things that happened yesterday, not stressing about things that might happen tomorrow. Just BEING, and realizing that by worrying about other things in time, we're squandering our time NOW.
-Love is not scarcity. There's enough love for everyone, and the more love you give, the more love you have. Love takes all sorts of forms, but I think you have to love yourself before you can truly love someone else...... And love to me means accepting someone exactly as they are, not wanting to change anything about them, even if you don't agree with it. Love is respect, and love is wanting the best for someone, and love is sometimes as simple as giving them the last bite of your favourite dessert.
Anyway. that's what I got. Now you.

Tue, July 17, 2007 - 5:10 PMwe all carry an ember from the same fire ... (do you re-member?)
i am a human being ... not a human doing
I am spirit having a human experience ... not a human having a spiritual experience

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 10:50 PM-Our greatest lesson to learn in our lifetime is not to be afraid.
-God turns our mistakes into good somehow, someway, so there's no point in beating yourself up over them.
-Selfishness is the worst human characteristic.
-Suffering creates wisdom.
-When feeling bad, you have to pay attention to what your emotions are telling you.
-Do anything you can to push away negative thoughts in order to try to stay in a place of high vibrational energy so that you can attract good people and circumstances into your life.
-Visualization is an important technique to achieving what you desire.
-Faith in our creator is the most misunderstood, and most important thing you can develop for a happy life.

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Mon, October 8, 2007 - 6:36 PMi would only add, right off, the idea of comparing one's own experience of oppression (or their individual, often intuitive, voice being suppressed by the dominant imagination/society) to that of others. That is, the value of "connecting the dots", of empathizing with others as you would want to be empathized with, and understanding that the media (Left, Right, Center, even radical) often blur things and take things out of context and don't try to empathize in any meaningful way.
So, quickly, it all boils down to seeing how we are manipulated by the management of our thought by huge PR interests, and how our lack of consciousnes has a way of tooling us against others. So, i advocate seeing the value of pursuing *commonalities* rather than *differences*.
The other ideas make a lot of sense to me as well!

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Sat, December 22, 2007 - 6:33 PMLove begins and ends with you.
Your reality is the only reality.
The only way to win is to be present.
Everything you know is wrong.
Everything you feel is right.
You are a perfect creation.
Time moves in one direction.
The rate at which time passes is inversely proportional to one's age.
Life equals breath equals spirit. -

I have to counter this point. Your reality is NOT the only reality. We each live in our own realities, and it may not be the TRUE reality because we see things filtered through our experiences and belief systems. Reality is a very subjective thing. -

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Sun, December 23, 2007 - 7:25 AMExtremely important point.
Separate realities is not the same
as one reality, rather its the only reality
FOR YOu, unless you change your mind.

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Sun, December 23, 2007 - 4:31 PMThere is no such thing as a "false" reality. All realities are true, because we each have our own. Any time someone is talking about a reality that is not true, that person is just judging and really means "that's not true in MY reality"... When in fact it's perfectly true in someone else's. -

I tend to disagree. You know the story of the blind people who are feeling an elephant.
It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind
The First approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
“God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!”
The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, “Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me ’tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!”
The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant
Is very like a snake!”
The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
“What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain,” quoth he;
“ ‘Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!”
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: “E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!”
The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant
Is very like a rope!”
And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!
Just because they all had their perception about the elephant, the true reality was, it was an elephant.

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Mon, December 24, 2007 - 11:36 AMI specifically did not mention "true" related to reality as reality is 100% subjective. I also left off "to you" because it is implied and I prefer to keep my core wisdom as simple as possible. -

Re: What's the Core Wisdom for you?
Thu, December 27, 2007 - 7:51 PMEveryone here posts great stuff. If I had to explain it, it would have to be like the last scene of the movie (I forgot the name) where that Kid was on the gymnist rings and the voice in his head asked him what time it was and he said 'now'. Then the voice in his head asked him where he was and he said 'here'...or something to that extent! Being thankful is a big one as well. Merry Kwanzika
